The Language of The Sea by James MacManus

I do apologize for being late for this review, but was so drawn into this work that I had to re-read it. The Language of the Sea by James MacManus brings us into the life of Leo Kemp an academia who loses his teaching post at the Coldharbor Institute For Marine Studies he works for but goes on one last field trip with his students. Lost overboard in a freak storm wave, Leo Kemp believed lost at sea leaves his wife, daughter and community behind to carry on with their lives.

But there are rumors of a bearded man being seen among the seals on Monomoy Island. First one sighting, then another, and another grabbing the attention of Herald reporter and friend of the lost at sea Leo Kemp to investigate further. How does one come back from being lost at sea for nearly six weeks, living among seals as part of the rookery? Feeding on seaweed, and mollusks and drinking from fresh water ponds, sleeping on the beaches in grasses. Can the family return to a semblance of a happy family life?

Are those in the field on science putting their all into the study of the sea, a world much closer to home and more important than that of space exploration.  A world that feeds the world and provides power, medicines, and so much more.  James MacManus explores all these questions and intrigues us with the powerful pull of the sea life.  I throughly enjoyed reading The Language of The Sea by James MacManus and recommend picking up a copy for a refreshing look at sea life.

Lagan Love by Peter Murphy

Perhaps we've all felt the pull of the mystery of Ireland with it's ghosts, banshee's, fey people, and the lure of it's lost to ruin castles. For Janice a Canadian student and young artist who has fallen for the young up-coming poet Aiden the pull to this isle is enhanced that much more.  As Janice gets caught up in the history and mystery that is Ireland she begins to see things and believe in the folklore tales, especially of the Silkie and the Lenanshee muse or spirit that inspires lovers to creative heights.  The lenanshee is a fairy lover of humans who when angered can cause death.

It's Aiden and now Janice's involvement with the older couple Maurice and Gwen who've taken to sponsor these two artists and pulled them into their web with promises of success that makes one believe in the lenanshee.  Will the people in their circle of friends get caught up in the whirlwind too?  Is it personal loss or loss of one's identity with one's country that can destroy lives.  Lagan Love is not just for the Irish though Peter Murphy does an excellent job of describing the countryside until you believe you are in the midst of it.  It's for all who identify with the legends of their country and fear the loss of it to others coming in.

I highly recommend picking up a copy of Lagan Love and give it four stars at least.  It will definitely pull you into the love of Ireland and it's myths until you are craving for more.

Eco Foil Pans Review & Giveaway!

Sponsored by Tomoson.com

Recycling is what we are all about here at Baba's Farm Life so when I got the chance to review the Eco Foil Pans I just couldn't resist. Finding companies to purchase from that help to keep our planet green and our resources well used means we'll live healthier greener lives while we're here and give something back to those who follow in our steps in the future.

Eco-Foil pans are made from 100% recycled aluminum available only from Handi-Foil.  Learning to recycle what resources we use means that we'll leave something for future generations.  Even the plastic lids used with the Eco-Foil pans are made from recycled materials!  Just one of the reasons I love using Eco-Foil pans.

But that is not the only great thing about Eco-Foil Pans, because these pans are there to make your job in the kitchen all that much easier.  Imagine cooking an entire meal in one pan with simple easy clean up!  You can do just that with Eco-Foil Pans, and what cook doesn't want clean up to be easy?!  We used them for cooking a Roast complete with vegetables and then I made gravy right in the pan!  We also used them for making a delicious Lasagna dinner.  What's really nice is I can make extra Lasagna ahead of time and put these right in the freezer.  Of course we always remember to recycle our pans when we are done with them.

You can learn more about these wonderful pans on the Eco-Foil website. You can check out all the fun facts and find a store near you that has Eco-Foil pans.  Eco-Foil pans can be found at most major retailers and grocers.  Want some of your own?

Supernatural Season 2 on Blu-ray Now Available!

In case you don't know me by now, I'm a huge fan of Supernatural the super CW Network show that features the Winchester brothers hunting all sorts of creatures, demons, undead, fallen angels, you name it. In fact I love all shows of this nature, it's just who I am. But I think I missed a couple this past season so I'm thrilled that the Complete Second Season is now available on Blu-ray!

Season 2 finds the Winchester brothers chasing down such monsters as: werewolves, ghosts, shape-shifters, zombies, vampires, and even a demon clown. Scary and thrilling to watch Supernatural stars Jared Padalecki(Sam Winchester), Jensen Ackles (Dean Winchester), and Misha Collins as the angel Castiel.

With a featured Monster of the Week in Season 2 you are sure to be chilled and thrilled as you watch this amazing show on Blu-ray as the Winchester brothers travel around in their 1967 Chevy Impala.  A muscle car  certain to attract the men to watch.  I'm not sure who my favorite monster is from Supernatural and I wouldn't want to come up against any of them myself.  Maybe the ex-girlfriend turned demon of Dean's would be fun to battle against.  Ha, who am I kidding.  I'd lose against any of them, but they are exciting to watch.

Order your copy of Supernatural Season 2 on Blu-ray here at http://bit.ly/k3Lbpz  today!  And check out the Supernatural on Blu-ray Facebook page for up-to-date exciting news.

I have been hired by Warner Bros. WBWord division to promote Supernatural: The Complete Second Season on Blu-ray.

Weekend Blog Hops

A few wonderful blog hops to enjoy on the weekend: Enjoy!

Sunday Blog Hop Shibley Smiles

There are several other weekend hops you can participate in.  These are just a few that I love.  Enjoy!

Dehydrating Chives

I finally decided it was time to trim down the chive plant which was getting extremely tall and it has done so well for us the past couple of years. Though it was too much to use at one time we did use some in a salad that evening that topped off the flavor perfectly. I decided to dehydrate the rest of the chives and store them away for other meals. Though not as flavorful as fresh chives, they still punch up the taste in salads, on fish, in dips. etc..

Here is how to do it:

Trim your chive plant being sure to leave about an inch of green for new growth. Trim off the tips of each chive stem or any brown that may be on the tips. Cut the chives into 1/4" sections. No need to wash them when grown in a pot inside like I do mine. Lay them out on your dehydrating tray evenly spaced. If you don't have the polyscreen tray inserts which prevent food bits from falling through $3.75(I didn't), just line your tray with waxed paper and put the chives evenly space on the waxed paper.

Set your temperature to 110 for 4 to 6 hours.  You can then store your chives in another spice jar for everyday use.  Great for adding to baked potatoes, fish, or in dips, and you'll  always have them at the ready when you need them.
