Welcome the the first Aloha Friday for 2011. As we join Kailani over at An Island Life for another Aloha Friday because in Hawaii they like to take things easy on Fridays so I'll do as Kailani suggests and just ask one simple question.

Tropical Traditions Organic Shredded Coconut Review & Giveaway!

When I was a child my grandmother every Easter made us a bunny cake for our dessert at Easter dinner. I was always amazed that it was shaped like a bunny because to the best of my knowledge they didn't have cake pans back then in the different shapes they do now. Her delicious bunny cake was decorated with shredded coconut and it was so good! It has been a childhood memory that has stood the test of time and stayed with me all these years.

I've wanted to make one for the grand-kids for awhile now and thanks to Tropical Traditions I'll be able to make one that is also a bit healthier for them. Tropical Traditions sent me their Organic Shredded Coconut to review.  I love that Tropical Traditions take care to make sure all their coconut products come from Organic farms where no pesticides or fertilizers are used.  It's the best way to make sure my family is not getting any chemical junk in their foods.  Tropical Traditions premium dried coconut contains no additives or preservatives and is not sweetened, or treated with sulfites to keep it white  It's great for snacks or baking delicious goodies like the bunny cake above.

Tropical Traditions also has an abundance of fabulous recipes that are free to use if you're looking for something new to prepare for your loved ones.  How about making some macaroons?  I'm thinking of making some dry snack food to package up for treats.  Adding the shredded coconut to nuts, raisins, dried fruits to taking camping or hiking.  That's just the prepper coming out in me.

Win It!  Tropical Traditions is generously giving one of my readers their own 56 oz -tub of Tropical Traditions Shredded Coconut to make your family some delicious treats with!  To Enter: (required)Just Check out the many free recipes available at Tropical Traditions and tell me one that you'd like to make for your family.

Wordless Wednesday -Our Majestic Neighbor

Just down the road from us sits this grand old tree.

Upon closer inspection we found the tree was roost for this majestic creature. Brought out my American pride to have one living so close to us.

But then he spotted us and flew off for a little bit. He was back to the same roost soon enough.  I want to see your Wordless Wednesday so link up below.

Having Crazy Thoughts

It's the beginning of winter here. We've just had our first snow. The temperature is 2 below and all I can think about is planting our garden! How crazy is that? I've already gotten 3 seed catalogs in the mail and I can't wait to get started planting. How many crops will be planted? What kind of vegetables do we eat a lot of?  Have we put enough mulch on the strawberry plants so they'll come up again in the spring.  What seeds do we still need, what do we have already stored.  So many gardening thoughts are going through my head right now.

All this and we still don't have the house ready yet.  How crazy is that?   I won't even be able to do any canning if the house isn't finished.  But I do know where to get seeds and plants.  Burpee is a company I have trusted for years to supply great seeds and plants/trees for your garden. I liked them so much I became an affiliate. For long term seed storage for preparedness I go to Hometown Seeds.  I love how they package the seeds for storing right inside your freezer or in a dark cool place so they're ready and viable when you need to use them.

Though I won't be ordering any fruit trees until the fencing on the goats is made more secure.  Goats can destroy young fruit trees in a heartbeat; as we found out last spring.  It was very costly.  Over $300 in fruit trees down the drain.  If I do it again I'll put barbed wire around the fruit trees until I'm certain no animals will be chewing their young growth.  Are you thinking about gardening yet?
