Paper Mate Greens Up The Classroom!

Having a husband who works not only driving school bus for our school district, but also works as a janitor at the consolidated school here in our small town, I know how many pens and pencils get swept up and thrown out every day at schools.  Kids leave them on the floors, on the bus, on the playground or commons area and are swept up each day by the janitors who throw them out.  Teachers too collect a large amount of pens and pencils each day they find them and you can bet each one has a drawer full in her desk in case someone needs one, but there is only so much room for hording pens and pencils that are forgotten or left behind.  The problem is they end up in landfills across the country.

Paper Mate has come up with a parcial solution to the problem with their new biodegradable pens and mechanical pencils!  The outer shell of each of these particular pens and mechanical pencils are entirely biodegradable.   As part of the Paper Mate Plant A Pen Blog Tour, I received a package of pens and mechanical pencils to try out and see just how biodegradable they really are.

Paper Mate asks that you remove the inner workings from the outer shell before planting, so that's just what we did here.  The ink cartridge I'll save and use as a refill when the ink runs out in the other pen.  The other two tiny plastic parts are all that's left to go in the trash.  That's a big improvement in what's left to go into a landfill.

We then found a spot in our garden to plant the pen/mechanical pencil to see exactly how fast it will break down.  We planted the pen and marked the spot so we can take a look over time to see how it's doing.  I'll let you know how long it takes.  The biodegradable parts are actually made from corn!  I really liked how they feel in the hand, soft, smooth, yet a firm gripping point.  It's a pen and pencil I could use all the time.  The pen uses blue or black ink, and it's always nice to have a choice.  I myself like using black ink, but I know most teachers perfer you to use blue ink.

Paper Mate is a product that has been trusted for years for quality writing instruments.  When purchasing school supplies for your kids this month, be sure to look for the biodegradable pens and pencils from Paper Mate.  Your school and community will thank you, and you can feel good about off setting your carbon footprint a bit more.  We'll be getting these for the kids to use in school this year and stocking a few for our home use too.  Hubby will be spreading the word about these biodegradable pens and pencils from Paper Mate to the teachers around the school and to the kids on the bus.  Way to go Paper Mate!

I wrote this review while participating in a blog tour campaign by Mom Central on behalf of Paper Mate and received the products necessary to facilitate my review. In addition, I received a gift certificate to thank me for taking the time to participate.

Aloha Friday

It's Friday again, but this week I'm not at my computer so I don't have a picture to go with this post. Again we join Kailani over at An Island Life where in Hawaii they like to take things easy on Fridays. So I'll ask just one simple question that doesn't require a lengthy response.

My Question for you today is:
For those of you who have a garden, will you be planting any fall crops? For those of you who don't have a garden, why don't you have one?

Away From My Computer

It's just me and the little ones for a few days by ourselves.  Zach will be around a little bit to help out when he isn't working or with his friends.  If I am slow at posting something new, please understand that I am not at my computer.  I am using my daughter's computer right now and it is agonizingly slow, nor does it have all my saved information on it which makes it take even longer to put up a post or even list a giveaway.  Truthfully, I am pulling out my hair with this computer.  Ughh.

Well, actually not pulling it out, but I did cut it short again and added color(deperately needed).  As I write this the girls are napping peacefully, so I have a few moments to myself.  They really have been good, and they are so loving and sharing kisses, hugs, and snuggles.  What could be better than that?  I'll do my best to post as I should.  If I happen to struggle with it, Please bare with me.

Tropical Traditions Coconut Cream Concentrate Review & Giveaway!

To be honest I had never in my life cooked or baked with Coconut Cream Concentrate before now.  I have done a lot of baking and none of my recipes had called for it, or perhaps I'm just not that astute when it comes to recipes.  That's just something that comes with country living unless of course you are The Pioneer Woman coming from the big city.  That I'm not.  Just old fashioned recipes handed down here and none of them called for Coconut Cream Concentrate.  I do have Ree's Cookbook but forgot to check it.

So when Tropical Traditions blessed me with some to review it was my chance to try it out in a recipe.  I looked online at their Free Coconut Recipes and found one to make.  For me it had to be something with chocolate because I'm a chocolate fiend.  It's true - I have been know to dig into the kids Halloween candy bags looking for the dark chocolate bars.  Shuush we don't want them to know.

I selected the Gluten Free Coconut Brownies recipe to try.  Though I used regular Morton's Salt instead of Himalayan salt in the recipe.  There is nothing better than a warm brownie right out of the oven.  Of course the whole family loves brownies so you can be sure these didn't hang around long.  I think I'll be trying out a lot more recipes to use this in.

Tropical Traditions is generously  giving one of my readers their own Coconut Cream Concentrate to bake and cook with!  To enter just take a look at the recipes and tell me one you would like to try, unless of course you already have a recipe you love, then tell me what that is for.  Be sure to include a valid email address or have it readily available  in your profile so that I can contact you if you are the winner.

Consider Bison For Healthy Eating

The sequence is set to motion using these fram...Image via Wikipedia

We're all looking for ways to improve our diet, whether it's to lose weight, consume less fat, or just to build body muscle.  One meat that can assist you in doing all three is Bison.  Bison often mistakenly called buffalo meat is rich in muscle mass protein for build strong bodies.  Believed to contain 25% more protein and 70% more iron than beef, many in the sports industry are turning to eating bison for their meals.

If your looking to lose weight then you might want to try a weight loss meat like bison.  Believe it or not bison has less fat than chicken or salmon! "Dr. Mehmet Oz named bison as one of his top three Fat Fighter Foods."  That's pretty significant when it comes to weight loss.  Bison is considered a low fat red meat and becoming highly recognized in the weight loss industry.  Bison has has an astonishing 2.42 grams of fat and 143 calories as compared to 18.54 grams of fat and 219 calories in choice cuts of beef.  I have eaten bison myself and found it delicious.  If you haven't tried eating bison yet you may want to consider picking some up.  Especially if you are becoming more health conscious and want to watch your fat and calorie intake.  Cook it up like you would any other red meat.  Delicious on the grill, or in stews, and soups.  Give it a try, I think you'll like it.

Planning My Dream Kissimmee Vacation

Cinderella Castle at the Magic Kingdom, Walt D...Image via Wikipedia
This is a Sponsored Post written by me on behalf of Kissimmee Tourism. All opinions are 100% mine.

Truly Kissimmee is one of the places I dream of going on vacation for a number of reasons. Kissimmee is in the Heart of Florida right next to Orlando where my sister lives. I love visiting her down there where it's warm and just a short trip to the beaches. It's also very close to Disney World. I haven't been there yet. Every time I visit my sister it seems we haven't had time because she's usually working all the time. Sad, I know.

Kissimmee has loads of fun activities and attractions by itself. Water theme parks to take the kids to and just enjoy the fun, mini golf course, hot air balloon rides, or how about seeing a 500lb alligator?! I would spend a lot of time shopping for antiques which is my passion. Lanier's Historic Downtown Marketplace is an 18,000-square foot store filled with antiques so I know I'd find just the perfect piece to decorate the Stone House with. I may have to take out a loan for a shopping trip if I find too many things, LOL. Then there is The Barn Antiques which is a large family owned antique shop with another huge selection.

Hubby has promised me a trip next year and I'm sure he'll enjoy the Saturday Night Cruise- a 19 year tradition of classic restored cars. That will surely make him want to come back over and over. Visit http://bit.ly/dlBGMu to plan your perfect Kissimmee vacation.

The used phones are either refurbished or recycled in an environmentally sound way.  With the proceeds from the donated phones, Verizon Wireless helps provide wireless phones and airtime to victims of domestic violence, as well as funding and other contributions to non-profit domestic violence shelters and prevention programs across the country.  So be sure to donate you old phone when you purchase the new Samsung Intensity II.

You can purchase the Samsung Intensity II at verizonwirelss.com or your local Verizon store for $49.99 after a $50 mail-in rebate with a new two-year customer agreement. Customers will receive the rebate in the form of a debit card; upon receipt, customers may use the card as cash anywhere debit cards are accepted.  I really need to get one of these for myself.
