Little River Turns 2 Months Today!

This sweet little thing turns 2 months old today and is starting to roll on her side all by herself to follow a voice or look at something she wants to see.  Baby River smiles so easily and is cooing so much more now as if to talk to you that she is giving us all such joy to be near.   Getting little chubby cheeks you just want to kiss all the time.   Watching her milestones gives Mommy so much excitement just like any other mother would do with their child.  Oh how I love babies!  And Mommy loves this Infantino Fold & Go Bouncer!

While visiting Mommy Bloggers group on Twitter Moms I ran across the cutest post by Girl In Air  Michell Kaul who had made these darling Sesame Street Crochet Hats.  Aren't they just the cutest!?  They are available for purchase in her Etsy shop for $20.00!   She has posted the tutorial for the Elmo Hat here.  She is working on posting a tutorial for the others and I can't wait to see them.  I love these hats and think our girls would love to wear them.  I might try to make a set for them.  I know they are in love with Elmo for sure and can recognize the other Sesame Street characters so these would be perfect.

Dragons of Summer Flame-DragonLance Saga Review

If you haven't had a chance to read any of the DragonLance Saga books I highly suggest picking up a few. They are marvelous reading and this one Dragons of Summer Flame by Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman is one of the best because it ties so many of the others together for me. I truly enjoy this series and rank it along with Tolkiens greats for Fantasy.

Though some may find it strange for adults to invest time in this type of reading I see no reason to avoid a little adventure involving dragons, knights, wizards and magic. A bit of Fantasy never hurt anyone. And this series is delightful!

Early 4th Celebration

We celebrated a day early at Baba's for the 4th of July.  When you husband is a volunteer Fireman sometimes the 4th of July can be a busy day so celebrating early is a good thing.  We gathered with a few friends and neighbors and had a cookout with ribs and chicken on the BBQ grill, potato salad, shrimp salad, chips, baked beans, and cookies.

While the little ones played on the new Play Yard Set,  Daddy began filling the pool because the summer heat is getting to all of us.  Then the guys and gals spent a few hours practice shooting at targets with a few shotguns and 22s, and a 9mm.  Everyone had fun doing that.  I didn't get to shoot this time around.  I spent most my time corralling the little ones.  It's what a Baba does.

WalMart Backyard Play Set Review

Because we were setting up a this Backyard Play Set for the girls we wanted to take special care in following the safety tips from Underwriters Laboratories.  So we checked the area very carefully before deciding where to put up the Play Set.  Though the girls are still small enough that an adult is always present when they play on the Play Set; we did set it up so it could be seen from the large picture window in the living room for when they are older and can play outside by themselves.  This is the Path Finder Wooden Swing Set from Walmart for $399.00 plus tax ordered online and delivered to our local Walmart for pick up.

These things are not the easiest to put together no matter who you purchase them from.  It came in two large boxes.  There are a lot of pieces to the puzzle so it's best to lay them all out by matching the letter and number codes written on the pieces.  And it's a least a two man job.  We had to use 3 people to get the slide in correctly but it wasn't too bad.

It actually turned out to be a two day job for the teen Zachery to do.  It was his job and quite an accomplishment with a little help from Baba and sister Kirsten.  When it was all together Daddy and Grandpa looked it over to make sure all the bolts were tight and would not come loose and tightening where they thought it needed it.  All in all Zach did a great job of putting it together.

Though Dad is not happy with the quality of the wood.  He says it's made of pine and probably will not last long.  He  thinks we'll be lucky if it lasts three years.  That's a lot of money to put out for something and should last longer than 3 years.  Walmart ad claims it's made of cedar, but hubby who has been working with wood all his life says it's very poor quality cedar if it is at all and looks more like pine.  There is a difference in building your own play set and choosing the quality of wood and buying one that is assembly line constructed.  I think that is where the quality question comes in.

 It helps to put your anchors where they may be needed.  We put one on the ladder so the girls wouldn't be able to lift the ladder/rock wall up which would eventually break off the plastic cover where it bolts on to the play set.

The wood is covered under a 5 year warranty so we'll see how long it lasts.  It would have been good to take a close look at it before ordering it online but that was not possible for us living in the country and our Walmart doesn't carry them.

It's the girls first play set and we're hoping they get lots of use from it.  We used it today for the first time when we had friends and neighbors over for an early 4th celebration.  All the little ones enjoyed playing on it.  So that's a good thing.

Aloha Friday

I always breathe a short sigh of relief when Friday rolls around thinking my work week is all done. HaHa! But at least I can look forward to joining Kailani over at An Island Life for Aloha Fridays where in Hawaii they like to take things easy on Fridays.
