5 Things on My 'Honey Do' List That Never Get Done

My Honey Do List is a long one, but as part of Twitter Mom's quest for 'Honey Do' lists as part of the $100 ServiceLive Bucks competition, I thought it might be an easy thing for me to get mine list done. Ha was a wrong. There are so many things that just coming up with 5 was difficult, but I'll give it a shot below.

Honey;
1. Please put in the last two windows that are missing in the Stone House upstairs.

2. Could you connect the water so the toilet will finally be working?

3. It would be nice if you could fix the hole in the floor so we don't fall through.

4. Have you started building my kitchen cabinets yet? If you need me to I can help.

5. Let's get the facia fixed so we can put up the front porch again.

With our remodel of The Stone House you can imagine we have a long list of things that need done. This is just a few of them. We still need to get a water heater, a furnace, appliances, redo the floors, redo tile in the bathroom, find a shower stall that will fit our upstairs bath; and so much more.

Walking to Gatlinberg by Howard Frank Mosher

Thank you READ IT FORWARD for send me this book.
Walking to Gatlinburg: A Novel
It is not often that a writer can successfully integrate the concept of language into writing a book.  Howard Frank Mosher  in Walking to Gatlinberg has not just one dialect  (common English) in but 3 or more language dialects including that of the 1860 slaves and hidden from society hillbilly that people rarely are exposed to.  I truly would give this book 4 1/2 stars just for the dialects alone.  I loved it.

Seventeen year old Morgan Kinneson starts his journey from the small family farm in Vermont to search for his brother Pilgrim Kinneson after first losing his charge of a slave he was delivering to freedom to killers sent to find the slave and a slave girl and boy.  With clues from a stone the slave left to him Morgan sets out to find the missing slave girl who travels with a young boy in hopes that it will lead him to his brother Pilgrim who by last reports was a field doctor at Gettysberg.

Morgan's travels along the Underground Railway takes all sorts of interesting turns with the people he meets and in the process seventeen year old Morgan becomes a man just as one would expect of anyone who lived during such a violent time as the civil war period we witness in Walking to Gatlinberg.  Some of these people were downright crazy but we aren't sure if that is just the way these people always are or if it's the war that caused them to be this way.  In any case; Walking to Gatlinberg is a marvelous read that I loved giving us just a glimpse into the lives of the people who lived through the Civil War era and I know you will love it too!  Be sure to pick up a copy if you love any part of history!

  • What We Did In The City

This past weekend Hubby and I took a trip to the city.  Colorado Springs to be exact which sits just below Pikes Peak in a beautiful green section of the foothills of the Rockies between Denver and Pueblo, Colorado.  There is tons to do in Colorado Springs, but we only had a few days and the first day was reserved for a birthday celebration for my nephew Lee.
Snow Covered Pikes Peak in the Background
It was a surprise birthday party that his wife Christina threw for him and it was such fun!  She reserved the pavilion at Manitou Lake where he loves to take their two boys fishing.  The pavilion came in hand because the weather was cold with rain and snow so it was nice to have a fire in the fireplace inside the pavilion to warm our backsides.   Lee had already planned to go fishing by himself there so we all surprised him while he was down fishing.  It was great, even his Mom, my sister Lennie flew in from Florida for the surprise!
Lee Fishing before he saw us.

Christina had also rented a 3-bedroom cabin not far from the lake for several of us to stay and it was a wonderful cabin I must say.  Fully furnished with everything you need for the weekend including a gas grill and a hot tub.  Unfortunately none of us had our swimsuits with us.  The only thing we had to bring was our own food and clothing of course.  We could look out the window in the morning and might catch a glimpse of deer, and we certainly saw lots of chipmunks!
There was even two pelicans who hung out at the lake along with a few ducks.  It was a sight to see!
Back Row: Sister Pat, Me, Hubby, Lee, Christina
Front Row: Kaleb, Sister Lennie, Jayden
    Christina and Lee with Family
Seeing two of my sisters and doing a bit of fishing while celebrating a birthday was fabulous!  My sisters and I did a bit of fishing ourselves and had a delicious fish fry later at the cabin.
It was wonderful to visit with all the family for those 2 days, but we had shopping to do for the Stone House. Things we just couldn't get in our tiny town, so off we went to Home Depot and Sam's.  Who doesn't love shopping?!
