Five Short Weeks

It seems it was only yesterday that I was tell you the news of a new baby coming.

In just five short weeks we'll have another baby in the house.  A new little girl will be born and so far Momma is doing well.  She's had to adjust her diet quite a bit with this pregnancy to avoid getting full blown diabetes and it's been rough going.  We're all hoping that after the baby is born her health will recover and she won't need to watch her diet as much.

Are we ready?
I think so.  We have a bassinet, crib, changing table,  bedding for the crib, stroller.  We still need diapers, lotions, powders, baby wash, all the little things, and a few clothing items for newborns.  All the major items are covered.

Amelie and Moyra will be sharing a room while the new baby is in with Mom and Dad.  It would be nice to be able to add on another room, but that is just not feasible right now.  There is plenty of land to add on but not the necessary fund to do it at the moment.  In another year or two the teen Zach will be out of the house probably attending college somewhere and his room will be available.  Until then things will be a bit crowded.

No room for a third high chair and Moyra is ready to graduate to sitting at the dinner table anyway.  The dining table on the other had needs to be replaced.  It's old, worn, and falling apart so we are looking into getting something new.  Ahh, the joys of new additions to a family.  You really can't beat it.

More Food Storage Accomplished

The family once again worked on their food storage this weekend and I thought you might like to see some of the pictures of what was stored.  You can read up on the process of food storage here in my previous post.

All most ready to seal them all up.

Millet that we'll be grinding into flour

Pinto Beans for cooking

Wheat that we will be grinding into flour.

And lots of white rice!
I know it may seem like a lot of work, but it really isn't.  It goes by really fast with all of us working on it.  And it gives the family peace of mind that they have this on hand should they need it.  Good luck in your Food Storage endeavors!

Do You Know Where Your Food Is Coming From?

All New Square Foot Gardening: Grow More in Less Space!
A posting from a site that I belong to recently had a post from one of it's members about finding one of their frozen foods coming from China because a customer had complained that it tasted funny.  The store was a health food store located in PA and have since pulled those foods from their shelfs.  This is just one of the many reasons that growing your own foods is something that Baba believes is vitally important for you and your family.
Jewel-Tone Flower Pot Trio
You want the freshest and safest foods to serve your family to keep them in the best of health.  I realize that not everyone lives on a farm like we do.  Today, even those living in the cities are trying to grow their own foods on rooftops or balconies and I applaud their efforts.  Small container gardens are sprouting in the most unlikely spaces.  You don't even have to have a green thumb to do one.  There are several sites that can help you get started if you aren't sure just how to go about it.  Your local Walmart hosts a garden center and the people there are happy to help you with the right containers, seeds, fertilizer tips and amount of sunshine and water needed for each of your plantings.  If you don't want to start from seeds, you can wait until the first plants of the season are available to purchase.  You'll find tomatoes, peppers, even onion and garlic plants.
Felknor Ventures 82506 Topsy Turvy Upside-Down Tomato Planter
The point is to start.  Start anywhere even if it's just a few herbs in a kitchen pot.  You'll be providing fresh nutrition for your family and can feel proud knowing that you have done something to help keep your family safe, healthy and getting the right nutrients.  Take a few minutes to start your gardening today.  I promise you it's not that hard.

Spring Has Come To The Animals On Baba's Farm

This past week we have had several new babies born and a few more are due in a couple days.  Just thought you might enjoy a few of the pictures of them.  A couple of the pictures were taken before mama had a chance to clean them up.  As I am writing this  I just got word that two more have been born.  I'll show you pictures of them later.  Enjoy!

Do It Or Age Quickly by JB Burns

 Do It or Age Quickly
It seems everyone is looking for ways to stop the aging process, to stay healthy, active and strong throughout our lifetimes.  And we have gotten a lot of suggestions from the media promoting this product or that product that will enhance our appearance.    But it may be time to take a look at another approach that not only addresses appearance but whole body well being.  JB Burns has given us a complete guide to addressing this issue in Do It Or Age Quickly.

An accomplished personal wellness trainer and martial artist  JB has taken what he has learned from Eastern Philosophy Masters combined with Western knowledge and put it in a complete guide for you to use along with recommendations for products he has tested and is using for himself on a daily basis.  Wouldn't you take 60 seconds out of your day to look and feel younger, stronger, healthier?  I would.  The routines that JB Burns suggests in Do It Or Age Quickly only take 60 seconds and have helped people look and fell younger even into their 70's 80's and 90's!

I've read through the book and found it very easy reading and the diagrams are easy to understand so you can start on your routine right away.  I am doing some of the exercises now and am not only intrigued but am anxious for the results.   It may take me a while to get all the exercises into my routine, but I am determined to do it.  I have already changed the way I sleep and have started on my eyes to improve them.

Burns has foolproof methods for: Breathing your way to a sharper mind, Improving Energy flow as you sleep; Achieving a firm body without lifting a single weight; Promote sexual healing; Staying slim by eating the right combination of foods; Keeping a healthy head of hair; Maintaining gorgeous skin the ancient Chinese way.

JB Burns also has a complete product line available to help you achieve your goals.

I highly recommend picking up a copy for yourself if you are at all concerned about aging.  His suggestions and exercises can help improve appearance, well being, even marital bliss, and energy and are safe to perform for anyone.  Get your copy as soon as possible!

Our Weekend Food Storage Solutions

The family has been stocking up on basics like beans, rice, lentils, peas, etc.. and this weekend we decided it was time to put them in long term storage.   We first sat pregnant mom in a chair and let her have some nutrition for energy.  She needed it.
Giving Mom some nutrition
We gathered together all our supplies:
Bringing Up the Supplies
We had more rice and beans here than our local walmart normally has on the shelf on any given day.

Food to store
Food Grade storage buckets with lids
Food Grade Mylar Bags
Heat Sealing Wand-It's important to get out as much air as possible before sealing the mylar bags.
 Permanent Marker

We had an assembly line going with Hubby and I and daughter and son-in-law all working together to get the job done.  It was actually a lot of fun and went quickly this way.  Other than the food and markers we ordered all our supplies online and they shipped really fast so we could be ready for this day.

We managed to fill about 15 buckets of rice, lentils, pinto beans, red kidney beans, split peas, lima beans, wheat, and a few others.  And another five buckets a couple of days later.  The oxygen absorbers come in packages of ten and you must use them as soon as possible or try to reseal them air tight so that they stay working.  Which is why we decided to go ahead and fill the extra buckets now.

Many sites recommend storing enough food for a 3 month supply and others recommend storing a years supply.  I think the point is to get started and do what you can, when you can.  Doing this along with a selection of canned goods and necessities to rotate out and a good supply of water should take care of all our basic needs.
Where to get information:

How long will they last in storage?  Most of these will have a recommended shelf life of 2-15 years stored this way and probably longer depending on what is stored.  Of course we will be rotating it out replenishing it to  keep our stock fresh as we go.  We still have to stock up on basics like salt, sugar, dry milk, etc.. so there is lots of work yet to do.  It's rather comforting to know that we have this on hand to feed the family should an emergency happen.  What are your thoughts?

Introduce Your Children To The World Of Ballet With Prima Princessa DVD

 Prima Princessa: Swan Lake
As a small child I took ballet and tap lessons for about 3 years and then suddenly it stopped.  I loved the dance studio and dancing was wonderful.  I think my mother thought giving us dance lessons would improve her standing in society at the time.  I really missed going to dance class when we stopped going and when I saw on The Product Review Place a chance to review Prima Princessa I jumped at the chance to introduce ballet to my grand-daughters.  I want them to experience the thrill of dance too.
Stretching before dancing
So excited to watch Prima Princessa!
The Prima Princessa DVD is designed to introduce ballet to pre-school children through 2nd grade while they watch the the Paris Opera Ballet perform Swan Lake with breaks where they learn to dance themselves.  The girls were so excited!
Those first dance steps
Dancing together as the girls do in the movie.
Around in a circle.
At ages 2 and 3 Amelie and Moyra are enthralled with the idea of being Princesses and wearing their tutus is something they love to do.  I think they enjoyed the Prima Princessa cartoon character who cheered them on during the dancing when it was their turn and speaking as we watched the performance of the Paris Opera Ballet dancers.
This is how you do it, Amelie shows me.
Though they aren't yet as coordinated as they could be, it is a wonderful start for them and seeing the excitement in their eyes was so worth the extra time I spend with them.  I'm sure we'll be watching this DVD for some time ahead and practicing the dance steps.  Who knows, maybe when they get older they'll ask for a barre to be installed in their bedrooms.
Up on the toes, Moyra tries it.
Prima Princessa is a wonderful way to get your child involved in dance and to introduce them to ballet.  It will definitely help their coordination.  I highly recommend picking up a copy for your child!  There is also a Nutcracker version available.

I received no monetary compensation for this review. I did receive the DVD for review purposes.
