Holiday Dreams for Christmas at The Stone House

All year I have been dreaming of a Christmas gathering of family at The Stone House, but that won't be happening it looks like. There is still so much to do like repair the flooring, redo the kitchen, repair the plumbing in the bathroom. All the necessities for a successful family gathering are just not in place yet.

Who am I kidding we aren't in place yet. Hubby still needs to move the trailer over to The Stone House so we can start working on it everyday. He tells me that he plans to take an extra day off during the Thanksgiving weekend and do it then, but I am not sure that is the best time to be doing it. We'll shall see what happens. Even if we get the trailer moved over that weekend to The Stone House that still doesn't give us enough time to be ready to have Christmas there this year, so I'll start dreaming of next year's Christmas and put that on my list for Santa. Because really that's all I want, and I have been a very good girl!

I always love joining Kailani over at An Island Life on Fridays where in Hawaii (where I sure wish I was now) they take it easy on Fridays. Each Friday we ask one simple question that doesn't require a lengthy response. Be sure to stop in and see all the other bloggers who participate in Aloha Friday! So my question for you today is:

How many things will you be thankful for this Thanksgiving? Just a number or a list is fine.

Kissing Games of The World by Sandi Kahn Shelton-Review

To tell you the truth when I first received this book Kissing Games of The World by Sandi Kahn Shelton I thought "What the heck is this? This isn't the type of book I would be interested in reading! Where exactly did this book come from?" The reason I thought those thoughts is that I am not a Romance reader. It's just something I have never enjoyed. Now if you throw in History.... well maybe.

But once I started reading it I found myself thoroughly enjoying every page. I was totally surprised because it wasn't like any romance that I had come across. It is not one of those "filled with titillating sex scenes that I normally associate with romance novels. Thank God for that! But yes it does have romance in a cosmic circumstance throwing together of two single parents each with a child in a small hometown atmosphere. A city life meets small town life. A father who is just starting to get to know his son and a single mom struggling with day to day life with an asmatic son. The boys are best friends - it's the parents who need to find themselves and eachother. I found myself rooting for both. I would recommend reading Kissing Games of the World: A Novel
for some light fireside reading time.

How Would You Like This For Christmas?!

I know my daughter would love it! You see right now she has a 3 year old, a 1 year old and is expecting another baby soon so this would make the perfect Christmas gift for her. I am hoping to win one. My Organized Chaos is giving a Bumbleride Indie Twin Stroller away right now and you can enter to win too. The giveaway ends Dec 1, 2009 so don't miss out. Or you can pass it up and just wish me luck.

Or How about this one from Kolcraft at Two of a Kind, Working on a Full House! Perfect solution to families with more than one child/baby. I know my daughter would love either one! Here's hoping I win one of them for her for Christmas.

A Toy You Don't Play With

I was a bit dismayed when I saw that Mattel had come out with Bella and Edward Twilight Barbie Dolls. Not that they were produced mind you, but they way they are marketed. What do Barbie-a doll little girls have played with for generations, and Bella and Edward from Twilight a Books and Movie about Vampires have to do with one another?

Little girls of the age who usually play with Barbie should not be confronted with the concept of Vampires in any form. Twilight the book and movie appeal to teens and adults, but how many teens today do you know who still play with dolls of any sort including Barbies. None that I know. The normal age range of children who play with Barbies is 7-11 year olds. Maybe 12 year olds if you can stretch childhood that far. Today that's hard to accomplish.

It would have made much more sense to market these as a Mattel Collector Series rather than as Barbie dolls. In reality these dolls are not to be played with, they are made to sit on the shelf adding to the "I Gotta Have It" of the Twilight fanatics grab for anything related to the Twilight Series. Don't get me wrong-- I am all for the popularity of the Twilight Books and movies series. I am a Twilight fan myself, but not the kind who gobbles up everything twilight other than to read the books and see the movie.

I just don't associate Twilight with Barbie and neither should children.

Pretty Please Press Children's Books Review & Giveaway

As you all know we are a family of readers and we start them young in our family. It's so much fun reading to my little grand-daughters who just can't get enough of books! They love to be read to and turn the pages and of course they have to look at each picture and try to identify items on each page. They can't read yet... they are just beginning to learn their alphabet letters, and they love to point out the letters they can recognize so that Baba can praise them.

When I had the chance to review a few children's books from Pretty Please Press through The Product Review Place I jumped at the chance because I knew the girls would love them. We'll be reading these over and over to them for many years yet until they can read them themselves.

The Scritchy Little Twitchell Sisters is a funny tale of siblings learning how to get along with eachother. Their antics cause a bunch of trouble for their poor parents and others and will make you giggle just reading about them. As with all sibling rivalries sometimes separation can be the cure as Lavina and Emmeline Twitchell learn it's much better to have someone to play with than to fight with.

Pynx by Jeffrey Greene is a cute tale of creatures on a far away planet who learn that sometimes there may be someone who you don't like who turn out to be very helpful indeed. So it's best to work things out and try to understand one another.

Bella Basset Ballerina by Laura Aimee Garn and illustrated by Valerie Sokolova is a darling story of a basset who wants to be a ballerina and how she achieves her goals through perseverance even when some tell her she can't.

Kick Block Punch by Jacquie Hann is the story of Sam who want to have a black belt in Karate right away but leans that it takes practice and hard work to achieve his goal.

You'll love reading these delightful tales to your children and the artwork by Eric Brooks and others is a joy to look at. With the children's books from Pretty Please Press you can also download Free Vocabulary Building Cards; Free Concept Building Cards; and Free Character Building Lesson Plans. "Pretty Please Press publishes children's books that are designed to be read aloud and talked about. Each book contains a message about character and values that helps parents and children think and talk about a variety of issues. Pretty Please Press was founded in 2001 by author Laura Aimee Garn, and is now led by publisher Vera Venturi."

Right now you can get a 20% discount off the list price when you purchase these books from the Pretty Please Press website and they are having a Buy 3 get 1 Free special going right now so stop in at www.prettypleasepress.com and get a head start on your Christmas gift giving.

I have one of each of these books to give away! One winner will receive the set of 4 Children's Books from Pretty Please Press! To enter just tell me who you would love to give these books to. Be sure to leave a valid email address in your comment or have it readily available in your profile so that I may contact you if your are the winner. This giveaway is open to all!
