Cheers For Grand-daughter!

We're all pretty excited here at the homestead. You see my grand-daughter Kirsten came home with the news that she was one of the girls selected to be cheerleaders next year. We are all so happy for her. It's something she has been wanting to do for a couple years now so right now she is riding on cloud nine with a huge smile on her face. What girl wouldn't be smiling with news like that. So we're cheering her on in her efforts and are tickled pink that she made the squad. Go Kirsten!

New Computer Tower

Recently I was lucky enough to win $100 from Jessica over at Jessica Knows blog just for a comment a made on one of her fabulous giveaways. Thank you Jessica! Not only was I shocked that I had won, but it came at just the right time. Remember I told you about my computer being on it's last leg? Well, after winning the $100 that went right into my paypal account I went shopping on Ebay for a new computer tower and this is what I bought.

It's a Dell GX270, Pentium 4, 2.8 GHz, 1 GB Ram, 400 GB Hard Drive, Windows XP, DVD/RW

I plugged it right in and bam! It works great and is so much faster than my old one and has more than 3 times the memory! I am so pleased with this that I have to say once again. Thank you so much Jessica! You were a life saver! I still have to put in a CD drive but that shouldn't be a problem. I also want to get a flat screen and get rid of this monster monitor on my desk. I am just so thrilled that I'll be able to continue blogging here at Babasfarmlife. Let's just hope my writing is worthwhile.

Want To Meet A Celebrity?

You don't have to go to Hollywood to meet a celebrity, you can see them while on vacation if you vacation in Kissimmee and have a wonderful time seeing all the sites too!

Kissimmee has everything you need for a fabulous family vacation or just time to realax on your own. Just minutes from Orlando in central Florida you could visit Epicot Center who right now are having their International Flower and Garden Festival May 1 - May 31, 2009; or see Wednesdays Rock at the Clock - The Duke Davis Memorial Cruise In eyeing classic cars and enjoying Dwight Icenhower and the Blue Suede Revue perform their “Tribute to the King” starting at 7pm and more May 6, May 27, 2009.

Who could be more famous than Mickey Mouse? How about Tiger Woods or the band members of N-sync (Chris Kirkpatrick or Joey Fatone) ; or major league ball player Barry Larkin, and that's just in the Orlando area. Many more celebrities live in Florida than I could name here and you just might see one of them.

Right now you have a chance to see for yourself. You can have a celebrity sighting of your own by going on a Kissimmee vacation. Thankfully, Kissimmee is giving away three (3) weekend getaways (3 days/2 nights) for two (2); and two (2) week-long vacations for four (4). Drawings will be held on or around 4/1/09, 5/1/09 and 6/1/09. I have entered and you can too. What a wonderful way to spend your summer vacation!

Waiting for the Mailman

This is one of those days where you are waiting for a package to arrive. A very important package and this is the scheduled arrival date. Actually the mailman won't be bringing it, it will probably come UPS. Sitting awaiting patiently..... Not! You see, I am expecting my new computer tower to get here today and I am too excited to get it hooked up. This old computer of mine is hanging by a wire. I would have said thread but wire is more appropriate. Ok... Deep breaths, deep breaths, calm, wait, calm. Not working! LOL.

The Stone House

Some days I think this restoration is going to take years and years to complete. Having a husband who is a School Bus Driver, a School Janitor, A Volunteer Fireman, An Artist, and also on a couple boards with regular meetings it's hard for him to find time to work on The Stone House. He does have plans to take a week off at the end of the school year to get some work done. Did you know that School janitors work year round, even in the summer? They do. Yep, that's when they do all the major cleaning, repairs, painting, etc. etc. to get ready for the next school year.

A Volunteer Fireman is also on call year round, 7 day a week, 24 hours a day. Sometimes getting a call at 2 a.m. makes it a bit difficult to get through work the next day, but he comes through with flying colors and no complaints.

Sometime in the next couple weeks we have to schedule a time to go to Colorado Springs to pick up his Art piece Gears of The Prairie that has been on display in their downtown. It was an honor to have it on display for a whole year and now that year has come to an end. It would have been nice to have it sell and save us a trip to pick it up, but alas, that didn't happen.

It looks like our summer will be busy, busy, busy.

Affordable Home Security

There was a time when we lived in the city just two doors down from my daughter and her young family. While she was visiting us for the day and her husband was at work, someone broke into their home taking cameras, stereo equipment, television, computer and DVD's, anything that might be worth money, they took. I am glad that she and the kids were with me at the time, but the experience was still frightening knowing that someone had invaded their home and rifled through their belongings and stolen from them. Having your home invaded adds fear into your life and it took a long time for that fear to fade.

If she had had a Home Security System in place perhaps none of that would have happened because the robbers would have been frightened off. Protect America has several GE Home Wireless Security systems to choose from at affordable rates. Fantastic rates for that matter! I chose the Copper package you see above which includes:

Fun Night With The Grand-Babies

My Son-in-Law's mother is having her retirement party tonight after teaching for 23 years. So while they are attending the retirement party I will be watching the grand-babies and the teens. Four children to love and hug all evening. The teens of course pretty much take care of themselves and know how to entertain themselves so they aren't really a concern. The little ones however like to move around from one thing to another very quickly but I am thinking I can corral them into watching a movie and snuggling with Baba on the sofa after dinner.

I'll get some snacks ready and we may even read a few books and then sit to watch our movie after baths and jammies are on. They are the cutest, sweetest little things around and I love to snuggle and kiss them so I thinks we'll have a fabulous night. Wish me luck.

The Stone House

The second window repair is done and the window in. Hubby put the new window glass in the south facing window of the living room and it really adds more light inside now that the plastic is gone. I can't wait for all the window to be in to see how bright it will be inside. It will help us decide just what we need in lighting. It's probably a good thing that they only do evaluation for property taxes once a year. I think anyway. But hey, what do I know.

I will say the house is slowing looking better. The poor thing.

The Stone House- Taxes

We just paid our first taxes on The Stone House and guess what. It already has increased! It must be because we replaced the glass in one window. LOL The one window was valued at $263.00! Who knew. Wondering what is going to happen when we get all the windows in? I just thought it was so funny. It won't be funny any more if it keeps going up. We'll see.

I Need New Glasses

Photo curtesy of stock.xchng

I wear plastic frame glasses because I am alergic to most metals and can't have metal touching my skin for any length of time. There is a little plastic stop wedge at the corner of my frames so that the glasses don't open too far. Well, the one on the right side of my glasses broke off and now either my glasses keep falling off my head or they get all crooked and mashed up against my eye. I really need to go get another pair, but haven't done it yet. It's another one of those things that just doesn't cross your mind when you are in town for shopping, but it should because I can't see any writing without them. I just kick myself when I forget little things like this.
